About Belize and the Green Parrot
From the doorstep of your cabana you can experience the two worlds of Belize…
The 2nd longest barrier reef in the world off shore is dotted with islands for world-class snorkeling, fishing and scuba diving.
Lush rain forests dotted with Mayan ruins are in the "backyard", 30 minutes to the Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary where 10,000 acres of rain forest offer walking trails swimming under a waterfall and home to the only Jaguar preserve in the world.
…and you will enjoy 14 miles of sandy beach from your own front door!
We are a Belize resort that caters to the adventure traveler.
We also have great weather!
- Average annual temperature 88 degrees
- December - May 84-88 degrees
- June - November 88-92 degrees
- We receive an average of 53-80 inches annual rainfall (compared to 180 inches in the Maya Mountains)
- Although the majority of rainfall occurs June to December, Mother Nature has her way of providing us with plenty of sunny clear days.
- Our Caribbean Sea is 80 degrees!
Why Belize?
When we announced our plan to purchase this wonderful resort in Belize, the most common question we were asked by family and friends was, "Why Belize?"
In a nutshell, we felt that Belize is the "hidden jewel of the Caribbean". Belize enjoys a beautiful tropical landscape, breathtaking views of the Caribbean jungle and mountains, a reef that you must see to appreciate, a climate that is hardly ever disappointing, and a wealth of fascinating Mayan history and ruins left behind intact. Another plus is Belize's close proximity to many beautiful North and South American gateways.
Before settling here in Belize, we had enjoyed traveling around the world. Soon we realized that although we enjoyed traveling, we still had not found "the destination." Hence, Belize came to our attention and we decided, "Why not?"
Immediately upon our first visit to Belize, we knew that we had finally arrived at "the destination" we had been looking for, a place that is so many wonderful things, but is NOT an over-commercialized tourist destination. With several additional visits, more research and a lot of hard work, we found and purchased the Green Parrot Beach House Resort of Maya Beach.
We have owned the resort since 1999. We are now starting into our 9th year of operations. In that time we have seen a lot of changes in Belize and in Maya Beach. The country is growing and developing. We survived Hurricane Iris in 2001. We rebuilt the resort stronger and better after that experience. We have up-graded the cabanas and we have worked with our wonderful staff to create a customer focused tropical resort. It has been a great experience. All of the family has had a hand in this effort.
There is a lot of development taking place on the peninsula. New resorts, new houses, and one day a new paved road. Civilization has come to Maya Beach. That is partly good and partly bad. We liked the quiet days and laid back atmosphere of the area. But with development comes more jobs for the people. We hope to keep the Green Parrot as it has been for over a decade --focused you you our traveling guests.
So here we are enjoying Belize with its well maintained atmosphere of jungle magic, Caribbean peace, romantic seclusion and a very relaxed tropical atmosphere. So, bring your imagination and sense of adventure, and come join us at this wonderful destination. Wherever you end up in Belize, we hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have.
